Diagnostic Pathology

Medical services

The major function of the Department of Pathology is the diagnosis of tumors and evaluation of prognostic indicators.

Diagnosis and treatment policy

The diagnostic services of Pathology and Cytopathology are the backbone of patient management and also contribute significantly to basic and clinical research.

Target diseases

Subspecialty diagnostic services are provided for all specimens with services: Breast, Gastrointestinal, Genitourinary, Gynecology, Bone/Soft Tissue, Skin, Thoracic, Head and Neck, and Neuropathology. Hematopathology is also a subspecialty. We have many subspecialities and handle any cases as “general pathology”.

Clinical experiences

Pathologists and cytotechnologists provide overall diagnostic coverage for the frozen section service, aspiration cytology, exfoliative cytology, and biopsy and surgical specimens. More than 6,000 surgical / biopsy cases and more than 7,000 exfoliative cytology and fine needle aspiration cases are handled each year.
The frozen section suite is a laboratory situated adjacent to the operating rooms. Surgical Pathology provides rapid frozen section diagnoses for surgeries performed in the operating room. A staff pathologist is present from 9:00 a.m. until the last surgery requiring frozen sections is completed. Approximately four hundred frozen sections are performed each year.
